Basic FX
Installation

The Polycom FX model is the middle range of the currently supported videoconference (VC) units. It provides the basic video functionality for small group meetings as well as expansion to include more peripheral devices as well as a 4-port MCU. The basic setup is quite simple. All components are color coded.

Television/Monitor Connections:
Audio-in - locate this symbol that should be next to the associated receptacles on the back of the television set to receive audio signals.
Right audio - Insert the red plug into the receptacle with a red color or labeled "audio in".
Left audio - Insert the white plug into the receptacle with a white color or labeled "audio in".
Video-in - locate this symbol that should be next to the associated receptacles on the back of the television set to input video signals. NOTE - If a receptacle is available for S-video, use only the S-video connection. This will provide better video quality.
S-video - Insert the yellow plug into the receptacle with a yellow color or labeled "video in".
Composite video - Insert the yellow RCA plug into the receptacle with a yellow color or labeled "video in". (see note above) Do not plug in the yellow RCA composite video cable if the S-video cable can be used.

Attach FX to Television:

Mounting - Normally, the Polycom FX unit should sit on the top of the associated TV. If the TV design includes a large, flat surface on the top, this is the best location. The lower lip of the FX unit should extend over the front and fit flush with the front surface of the TV. For additional safety, to prevent the FX unit from accidentally being knocked off, place a strip of Velcro to the top of the TV and the bottom of the FX unit. This will allow for both a secure location and easy removal when needed. If the TV design does not provide a large enough surface to safely mount the FX unit on the top, mount it on another surface close to the TV.

Polycom FX connections:
Audio-out - locate this symbol that is next to the associated receptacles on the back of the Polycom FX unit to send audio signals.
Insert the red plug into the receptacle with a red color.
Audio-out - Insert the white plug into the receptacle with a white color.
Video-out - locate this symbol that is located next to the associated receptacles on the back of the Polycom FX unit. NOTE - If a receptacle is available for S-video on the TV, use only the S-video connection. This will provide better video quality.
S-video - Insert the yellow plug into the receptacle with a yellow color next to the audio cables.
Composite video - Insert the yellow RCA plug into the receptacle with a yellow color. (see note above) Do not plug in the yellow RCA composite video cable if the S-video cable can be used.

Other connections:
Microphone - plug the microphone cable into the RJ-11 jack labeled with a microphone symbol and encircled with a brown line. A second microphone is provided (but not required) and can be daisy-chained to the first microphone if a large area needs to be covered.
Ethernet - plug the CAT-5 Ethernet cable into the RJ-45 jack labeled with a local area network symbol. Only connect to the outlet surrounded by the orange line (NOT the blue line).
Power - plug the power cable into the power jack labeled with a symbol. NOTE - the power supplies used with the various Polycom models are not interchangeable.

Hardware Installation is complete:
