Polycom Models

IFAS has selected Polycom as the videoconference vendor of choice. A large number of units already are in use throughout the Institute at on-campus units, Research Centers and County Extension offices.

Polycom has a large number of models that have been developed and are still available for purchase. When searching the internet for information about the various models it can become quite confusing.  Selecting the vendor with the lowest price becomes difficult because it may not be clear which model is being advertised for sale. When purchasing, be careful with the selection and verify exactly which Polycom model is being offered for sale.  Be aware, some of the older models that have been phased out or will be in the near future are still being sold.

While the older models will still work, only the newer models are recommended for purchase. The new models provide new features and utilize improved video compression (H.264) that makes better use of our available but limited communications bandwidth.

Note: the following table is a list of all Polycom units that may be available on the new and used market. Most are legacy products. The prices listed indicate the cost when the products were first introduced. It is provided for comparison purposes only. The items listed in green are currently recommended products within IFAS. A more detailed description of recommended products is provided elsewhere.

PVX software requires a PC (P4 1.5GHz, XP SP1) for data
and video processing. Software works with most inexpensive
video cameras (i.e., Logitech, Intel, etc) that connect to the
USB port.

NOTE - all models support IP connectivity as a standard function. Only the SP model supports ISDN (H.320) in the standard configuration but other models can have ISDN support as an option. Local ISDN support is not required or recommended due to the cost of the telephone lines. ISDN support is available through a connection to the UF Radvision Gateway.
