The Polycom PVX software is a PC application for videoconferencing. It is available for download from the Polycom internet site or is delivered on CD-ROM when purchased. If the software is received on CD-ROM check the version number received against the latest version available from the Polycom internet site. Use the latest version available that you are licensed to install. Insert the CD-ROM to begin the installation. If downloaded from the internet, unzip the file and double click on the installation file. The following screens were displayed during installation the program in the past. Newer versions have changed the some of the screens, but the general concepts remain the same. The program is available in several languages. Click on the down arrow next to the box and select "American English" if not already present. When selected, click on "Next" to continue.
Enter the information requested to identify the user to other videoconference participants and the videoconference bridge if used. The E.164 information is made up of the digits "79" and the last 5 digits of your phone number. This number must be unique. So, if there are others in your unit who also have videoconference software make sure you do not use the same general phone number for your unit. Use your office or meeting room number. When finished, click on "Next" to continue.
The IFAS ILS server is no longer in service, so this feature should be ignored and no registration should be attempted. The Global Directory Service (GDS) is not supported so no registration is required. When finished, click on "Next" to continue.
The next screen will test your system for sending VideoMail. Click on the "Play" button to test. When finished, click on "Next" to continue.
Make sure your speaker/headphone is connected and turned on. This setting will allow you to set the default volume level for incoming audio. Use the left mouse button to drag the bar to the left or right until the sound level desired is found.
When finished, click on "Next" to continue.
The type of video camera and audio card used on a PC can vary considerably. Or, you may have multiple devices available for use. In general, all options can initially be set to "Auto" to use the default devices available. If the "Auto" selection does not work (no picture or sound) you will have to use the pull-down arrow to select a specific device. This selection can also be changed during the setup process. When
finished, click on "Next" to continue.
The following message will appear if the program detected your PC was connected to the network behind a NAT device that connects to the internet. This is a standard connection. Either "Yes" or "No" can be selected depending on the level of isolation/security that you desire. This feature can be easily changed during setup.
Click on "Yes" or "No" to continue.
Based on your previous answer a selection will be displayed that you can modify if desired.
When finished, click on "Next" to continue.
When finished, click on "Finish" to end the installation process.
The PVX installation is complete. The program is now ready for use. If this is a new installation you will need to follow the procedure to activate the software with an Activation Key Code. The PVX application is designed to run for 5 minutes and than terminate unless the Activation Key Code has been entered into the program. Also, you will need to go through the setup process to configure additional features. Any of the settings performed above can be modified during or after the setup process or at any time a change needs to be made by selecting the desired function.
