Basic VSX
Installation

The Polycom VSX model is the middle range of the currently supported conference room videoconference (VC) units. It provides the basic video functionality for small group meetings as well as expansion to include more peripheral devices as well as an optional 4-port MCU. The basic setup is quite simple. All components are color coded and use the bottom jacks..

Television/Monitor Connections:
Video-in - locate this symbol that should be next to the associated receptacles on the back of the television set to input video signals. NOTE - If a receptacle is available for S-video, use only the S-video connection. This will provide better video quality.
S-video - Insert the yellow plug into the receptacle with a yellow color or labeled "video in".
Composite video - Insert the yellow RCA plug into the receptacle with a yellow color or labeled "video in". (see note above) Do not plug in the yellow RCA composite video cable if the S-video cable can be used.
Audio-in - locate this symbol that should be next to the associated receptacles on the back of the television set to receive audio signals.

Optional - These audio connections are not required since audio is provided through an external sub-woofer speaker provided with the Polycom unit. However, they can be used as additional speakers if the output jacks on the Polycom are not used for audio-in connections for recording on a VCR. See the optional output section for alternative uses for these jacks.

Right audio - Insert the red plug into the receptacle with a red color or labeled "audio in".
Left audio - Insert the white plug into the receptacle with a white color or labeled "audio in".

Attach to Television:

Mounting - Normally, the Polycom VSX unit should sit on the top of the associated TV. If the TV design includes a large, flat surface on the top, this is the best location. The lower lip of the VSX unit should extend over the front and fit flush with the front surface of the TV. For additional safety, to prevent the VSX unit from accidentally being knocked off, place a strip of Velcro to the top of the TV and the bottom of the VSX unit. This will allow for both a secure location and easy removal when needed. If the TV design does not provide a large enough surface to safely mount the VSX unit on the top, mount it on another surface close to the TV.

Polycom VSX connections: (bottom row only)
Video-out - locate this symbol that is located next to the associated receptacles on the back of the Polycom VSX unit. NOTE - If a receptacle is available for S-video on the TV, use only the S-video connection. This will provide better video quality.
S-video - Insert the yellow plug into the receptacle with a yellow color next to the audio cables.
Composite video - Insert the yellow RCA plug into the receptacle with a yellow color. (see note above) Do not plug in the yellow RCA composite video cable if the S-video cable can be used.

Audio-out - locate this symbol that is next to the associated receptacles on the back of the Polycom FX unit to send audio signals.

Optional - These audio connections are not required since audio is provided through an external speaker provided with the Polycom unit. However, they can be used as additional speakers if the output jacks on the Polycom are not used for audio-in connections for recording on a VCR.

Insert the red plug into the receptacle with a red color.
Audio-out - Insert the white plug into the receptacle with a white color.

Other connections:
Microphone - plug the microphone cable into the RJ-11 jack labeled with a microphone symbol under a brown line. A second microphone, if provided, can be daisy-chained to the first microphone if a large area needs to be covered.
Ethernet - plug the CAT-5 Ethernet cable into the RJ-45 jack labeled with a local area network symbol under an orange line.
Speaker - plug the speaker cable into the jack labeled with a speaker symbol under a blue line. This cable provides both speaker output and power to the VSX unit.
Power - plug the power cable into the back of the sub-woofer speaker.

Hardware Installation is complete:

After all the above connections have been made the Polycom VSX unit can be turned on with the rocker switch labeled with 0 (off) and 1 (on).
