Place a Call

When initiating a videoconference call from the Polycom unit several options may be available depending on how the unit was configured by the administrator. Not all options may be available for selection. The potential options available include:

• Enter an IP number or DNS name
• Select a stored number from the directory
• Select a number from the recent call list
• Create and select a multipoint call list
• Select a stored number from the speed dial list

Select one of the options by using the arrow keys to navigate to the desired menu option. If the main menu is not displayed, the home button can be pressed to display the main menu. When the appropriate option has been highlighted, press the central "Select" button. If you want to go to the directory, a shortcut button is available on the remote control.

The most direct method for calling another site is with the entry of an IP address using the address window and the numeric keypad. The numeric keys can be used to enter numbers, decimals and delete characters. By pressing any of the numeric keys it will enter the selected number.

Unlike their use when configuring the system and entering optional information, text cannot be entered using the numeric keypad. Text can only be entered using the optional keyboard screen.

A DNS text name can be entered using the keyboard screen. The keyboard is displayed on the screen by pressing the keyboard button on the upper left of the numeric keypad. If this option is selected, the arrow keys are used to move the cursor to the desired key and the central button used to select the key. When the entry is completed the keyboard can be removed by pressing the key that activated the keyboard display or selecting the bent arrow key on the lower right of the keyboard.

After the correct Internet address has been entered, press the green "Call" button on the top of the remote control. When finished with the call, press the Hang-Up button on the top of the remote control. If the site called was not included in the directory you will be given a chance to include the new site information onto the list.

 

A directory is a list of pre-entered and stored videoconference sites. To make a selection from the directory, use the arrow keys to highlight the "Directory" menu option and press the select button in the center of the arrow buttons. When the directory list appears, use the arrow keys to scroll through the list and select the desired location to call. When the correct site has been highlighted, press the select button in the center of the arrows or press the "Call" button. The select call will be made. When finished with the call, press the Hang-Up button on the top of the remote control.

The Polycom system will automatically keep a log of all incoming and outgoing calls made to and from the unit. The arrow keys can be used to scroll through the list. When the correct site has been highlighted, press the select button in the center of the arrows or press the "Call" button. The select call will be made. When finished with the call, press the Hang-Up button on the top of the remote control. If there is no entry for the site to be called it is possible to add new entries into the directory for current and future use. Corrections and deletions can also be made to the existing list.

For those Polycom units that have the optional multipoint function installed, calls can be initiated up to three other sites. Multiple entries can be selected from the directory list and manual entries made for those sites not listed in the directory. After all selections have been selected and entered into the on-screen table, the multi-site call is initiated by selecting the Call icon in the upper left of the screen. Calls to all sites will be made and the conference can begin when all the available sites have been linked. When finished with the call, press the Hang-Up button on the top of the remote control to disconnect from one or more remote sites.

Entries to this list are created under the "Admin Settings / General Settings / Home Screen Settings / Sites" menu. When selecting this option the list of sites will be displayed on the screen for easy selection. Use the arrow keys to scroll through the list and select the desired location to call. When the correct site has been highlighted, press the select button in the center of the arrows or press the "Call" button. The select call will be made. When finished with the call, press the Hang-Up button on the top of the remote control.
