VSX
Remote Control

The primary device for control of the system is the remote control unit. It provides full access to the internal settings of the system through the on-screen menus. There is another model that is also distributed with VSX systems that has the top two buttons (green and red call) that has these functions merged into a single green (Call \ hang-Up) button.

Picture-In-Picture (PIP) - The two small feet on the back of the remote control not only stabilize the unit when placed on the table but also act as a switch to activate or remove the PIP (Picture In Picture) from the display screen when video is displayed on the screen. If PIP is set to "Auto" mode a small image from the local camera is inserted in the larger display of the remote site. When the remote is set down, the feet will deactivate the PIP image and it will disappear. If you want the PIP image to remain without holding the remote control, set it down on its side.

Numeric entry - To enter any number, such as the address of a remote videoconference unit, enter the digits and decimals directly from the numeric keypad. If an error is made use the backspace arrow at the top of the numeric keypad to back up and delete the unwanted numbers and than continue to enter the correct numbers.

Text entry - There are two methods for entering text characters. The first method is to use the numeric keys to enter numbers, decimals and delete as well as enter text characters. When needed to fill in various menu options, text characters can be entered by quickly pressing the numeric key that contains the desired text character. As you continue to press the same key it will rotate through the characters displayed on the specific key. If you need to duplicate a character or select a different character from the same key, select the first character, pause for a second and than press the same key to select the next character.

This method of text entry cannot be used to enter a DNS name when calling another videoconference site. To enter text to place a call you must use the on-screen keyboard.

Keyboard Screen - The on-screen keyboard is activated by pressing the keyboard button at the upper left of the numeric keypad. When pressed the following keyboard will be displayed. Keys can be selected by using the arrow keys to navigate the cursor to the desired character. Press the button within the arrow keys to select the character.

The arrow button at the bottom of the keyboard perform special functions:

  • Bent-Arrow - selecting the bottom-right key will remove the keyboard from the screen and return to the previously displayed  screen. The keyboard display can also be removed by pressing the same remote control "keyboard" button that was used to display the keyboard.

  • Bar-Arrow - selecting the key to the left of the space bar will delete the previous character. It will continue to backspace and erase one character every time it is selected.

  • Empty-Arrow - selecting the key in the lower left determines if the following selected characters should be lowercase or upper case.

    • Down-Arrow - lower case characters will be entered

    • Up-Arrow - to activate, place the cursor on the empty-arrow key and press the "select" key once. A single upper chase character can be entered and the key will automatically return to lower case display.

    • Up-Arrow-filled - this functions as the caps-lock key. It is activated by putting the cursor on the key and pressing the "select" key twice. All characters entered will be uppercase until the arrow key is selected again.

Additional information about the remote control is available in the "Using Your Polycon VSX Room System" document.
