VSX
Screen Saver

The Polycom VSX system can be set to enter a screen saver mode if no activity takes place for a specified period of time. The times available include 1, 3, 15, 30, 60, 120, 240 and 480 minutes. This setting is found by following the on-screen menus:

System > Admin Settings > General Settings > System Settings > Appearance > Screen Saver Wait Time

If you have not turned off the screen saver wait time, various options can be set to occur when the Polycom goes into sleep mode. The settings for these options are only available through the web admin interface. Connect to the web admin web site for the Polycom unit and select:

System Setup > Utilities > Screen Saver

If a system admin password has been set you will be required to enter it before you can change any system settings. When you get to the screen saver screen the following options are available:

Screensaver text: It is possible to put a message on the screen that will continuously scroll up and off the top. A maximum of 384 characters can be displayed on the screen. They will appear in up to ten rows of approximately 38 characters. The desired text is entered onto 3 text boxes. Only 60 characters can be seen in each box but up to 128 possible characters per box can be entered.

The characters are displayed using a proportionally spaced font on the screen. Consequently, if a specific text layout is desired, it is difficult to determine the position of the content on the screen. It will be necessary to modify and repost the text until it is displayed correctly on the screen. Spaces can be used after any character to position following characters. Spaces are counted as characters. It is not necessary to completely fill a text box before moving to the next text box. All characters will be merged and automatically wrap.

Logo screen text: By default, when the screen saver starts, it will show the Polycom logo. It is possible to enter a single line of text below the graphic logo. This line can be no more than 36 characters long. A suggestion would be to enter your units name.

News feed: It is possible to include a news stream of current content. You can select one from a choice of 14 topic areas. These topics include:

  • Top Stories
  • World
  • Business
  • Technology
  • Politics
  • Sports
  • Entertainment
  • Health
  • Oddly Enough
  • Science
  • Opinion/Editorial
  • Most Emailed
  • Highest Rated
  • Most Viewed
  • None

On the screen will be displayed brief packets of news articles related to the specified topic. The articles will automatically change periodically.

Logo setup: It is possible to replace the default Polycom logo with a graphic of your choosing. There are certain restrictions placed on the size and type of graphic that can be substituted. These limitations are:

  • PNG graphic format
  • 8-bit PNG format
  • 300x300 pixels max
  • 72 dpi
  • file name "MyLogo.png"
  • 87.9 Kbytes max size

To insert your graphic of choice, enter the file location in the space provided or use the "Browse..." button to locate and specify the file's location on your PC. If found, a variant of the selected graphic will appear in the large box. Any previously entered logo screen text will appear below the box.

When ready, click on the "Upload Logo" button to transfer the selected graphic to the Polycom VSX system unit for use.  The file transfer should only take a few seconds. If the transfer appears to be stalled you may need to restart the Polycom unit and resend the graphic. If a valid graphic file is selected, the new graphic will appear the next time the Polycom unit goes into sleep mode and activates the screen saver. NOTE - the selected graphic will also replace the spinning Polycom logo that appears when the unit is first turned on.

If you would like to test this feature or add an IV-Net logo to your system, two are available for download. You can use  the logo with either

a white background
( MyLogo-White.png )

OR

a black background
( MyLogo-Black.png )

Click on either logo and save to your PC with a file name of "MyLogo.png" . This saved file can than be installed on your Polycom VSX unit.

The Polycom unit can be returned to it's default graphic setting by clicking on the "Reset" button.

Depending on which options are selected, the screen savers follow the following display sequence:

  1. Graphic and logo text - 1 minute display, than screen will go blank if no other screensaver option is selected

  2. Screen saver text

if no news feed selected - display continuously scrolling up the screen

if news feed selected - display once before each rotation of approximately 18 news items

  3. News feed - continuous display of rotating content.
